How did it feel swinging that Dragon Pole during the whole campaign? Was it still performing good enough in the end?

Yeah, totally. With Enchant Weapon, I could do 7 damage a turn without any other support at a fight value of up to 13 without committing any cards. With two Reliable on it, I could get up 15 without committing anything and a 10 without Enchant Weapon. Typically, though, swings would be more like 12-13 with EW, and 8 without. With the fight event cards, it wasn’t hard to get good use out of her agility discipline making it relatively easy to deal out 12 or more damage a turn.

I did get lucky in that I drew the Dragon Pole in my starting hand in every game except the last. Even then I drew it in the third round, and I never once played Prepared for the Worst (it sat useless under Stick to the Plan).

There is a lot of setup to make it work. However, I often had the extra damage online in the first round thanks to Ever Vigilant or the second at the latest aside from the last scenario. Still my first rounds were usually spent drawing and playing Ever Vigilant. This wouldn’t work at all solo or if paired with another investigator that is also slow out of the game. Fortunately, Monterey generally starts fast and gets faster, and I almost always had Safeguard down in the first two rounds to help me keep up.
