This is a solo Kate deck that I put together for my face check of the Dark Matter campaign. I'm publishing because I don't see many solo Kate decks available on ArkhamDB. It’s important to know that this deck filled multiple elements for me.
- This was a Kate Winthrop theme deck (weird science). Seeker cards that didn’t fall inside my mental theme of what Kate would carry didn’t go in the deck. Anything that was really arcane wasn’t really what I was going for.
- This was an untested true solo deck. I didn’t have a distinct upgrade path in mind when I created it, I just created a true solo deck that I hoped would survive.
- This deck was for my face check of Dark Matter.
Notes about the deck:
- I learned that I could more or less keep Kate’s “test at +2” available all the time because of how often I could pay clues off her assets throughout the scenarios. I never felt like I needed a +books asset in play because my science assets were giving me a spot to drop a clue
- The clue-butterfingers playstyle is amazing in solo Kate, when you can make it happen. I found that it was often hard to have enough clues to get the use I wanted out of captivating discovery. I think I was only able to proc that three times in the whole campaign. Dr Maleson however was a lifesaver as he helped me really avoid some nasty encounter draws.
- I never looped my deck in any scenario, but I sure did come close. The card draw was great, I never felt like I couldn’t find the stuff I needed.
- The Ravenous Myconid was honestly a flop. More often than not, and this might be campaign specific, I couldn’t get it into play when I needed it. I often had to solve enemy problems with my other tools. The reality is that in solo play, half the enemies you encounter during a scenario are elite and the Myconid would just sit there with resources on it and nothing to do.
- The MVP card was Steady-Handed. That card made the kit work and it kept Kate from going insane.
- All the classic solo player tools did what they are supposed to do: Studious Higher Education Cryptic Research
