FAQs

(from the official FAQ or responses to the official rules question form)
  • The “instead” is meant to replace the rest of the “if you fail” effects (adding an ally to the pool of sacrifices and attaching Kidnapped to the current agenda), not the test itself. If you have no ally when you draw Kidnapped, you’ll still take the test, and take 2 damage if you fail.

This card might put you in the situation, that you loose a named ally during the resolution of the scenario. This might leave your deck below the maximum deck size. I have got an official statement by the lead designer Mathew Newman over at FFG regarding the change to your deck size.

"We’ll be adding this to the next iteration of the FAQ, but the rule about repurchasing cards when you exile a card and must purchase a new card to maintain your deck size applies here, as well. Essentially, anytime a card effect causes your deck size to be under your investigator’s required deck size, you may purchase new level 0 cards at 0 experience cost to make up for this. This includes both effects that remove cards from your deck (such as when you exile a card), and also effects that increase your deck size."

The way he phrased it, this official clarification applies to Versatile (2) as well. Thank you! — Yenreb · 15
That is correct, I already added that to my review of Versatile(2) as well. — thakaris · 203

Just finished this scenario again and I got a question. If a level 0 ally of mine (let's say... Dr. Milan Christopher) is sacrificed because of this card my deck limit will fall below the minimum deck size, so I must include another lvl 0 card. The question is: may I include the sacrificed card again?

Generally when your deck is too small you can add lv9 cards for free to make it legal again , see exile rulings. Regarding Milan, the resolution of the scenario will answer your question. You cannot include sacrifed allies for the rest of the campaign. — Django · 5268
Django is correct. That said, this only applies to unique allies (with asterix before their name). If a Beat Cop or Arcane Initiate was sacrificed, you could just as well find a new one to replace them. — Susumu · 393
