As it has been pointed out to me by @Drostt in the comment of the Preston edition, I clearly overlooked an important card that can be used to replace Close the Circle. So, here is the revised edition of the demolition deck.
In your face FFG.
The Preston version uses Spirit of Humanity + Honed Instinct (Reflex Response) to insert 21 or Bust into skill test.
What I forgot is that has its own self-damage in Forbidden Knowledge, thus allowing Dexter to use the 21 system again.
Just like in previous posts, I will redirect you to the original post for a detailed explanation of this deck: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/49409/a-gambling-based-blasting-demolition-solution-1.0
Here's the revised activatio sequence:
-
Setup: Geas (promise of Play) and Forbidden Knowledge in play; Honed Instinct, 21 or Bust and 2 Dawn Star in your hand (and resources to play them)
-
Armageddon. During the skill check player window of ST.2:
-
Forbidden Knowledge: take horror for resource.
-
Honed Instinct: use the action to play 21 or Bust
-
As soon as Honed Instinct is being played (i.e. you payed the cost), the promise is broken and Geas throws 10 tokens into the bag.
-
Go through with 21 or Bust's effect until you have revealed all 10
-
Armageddon deals 10 damage (in 10 instances) to enemies at your location.
-
play 2 copies of Dawn Star to ignore each and every revealed, dealing a total of 20 damage (in 2 instances) to enemies at your location.
-
Finish with 21 or Bust's effect; since Dawn Star ignores all . you might even make a profit.
-
Continue to ST.3 of the skill check of Armageddon.
-
Assuming the skill test is successful, Armageddon deals 2 damage to your target, uping the damage total to 32.
-
The same principle can be applyed to Eye of Chaos test to net 12 clues and 20 damage in 1 action, or really any skill test and net 20 damage for a 5 card investment. Just remeber, don't do it during Clairvoyance or Azure Flame, it's gonna cost you health and sanity.
Since 21 or Bust emptied the bag, Prescient is a 100% reliable Spell recursion, or you can throw a generator into the mix and trigger Paradoxical Covenant and/or Seal of the Elders.
As the card pol continues to expand, I'm pretty confident there's going to be more ways to (ab)use 21 or Bust in the future.
