Overview
Since the release of Persistence I've been looking for a way to have an "infinite" hand Patrice in which you always draw the same 5 cards. Now with the release of Gift of Nodens we can make that dream at least somewhat a reality.
Mulligan / Gameplan
For the most part you're a standard Dark Horse Patrice so try to mulligan for assets to play and hang around doing Patrice things. However, you must pay attention to your remaining deck size as you're aiming to have an empty deck at the beginning of a round. You can rig it a bit since the same cards used for the infinite also lets you easily adjust your remaining deck size to line up an empty deck.
Once you have an empty deck you may begin the infinite as even if Nodens is the last card in your deck, you can still play it then setup the infinite.
Playing the Infinite* Hand:
Play 1 Improvised event from the discard and use Nodens during the test to add a skill card to the bottom of your deck. Since you added one card after your skill test you can then shuffle the Improvised event back into your deck as well since it's no longer empty.
Then play another Improvised event to also shuffle it in.
At any skill test points you may commit 2 Persistence from your hand then from the discard to shuffle them in as well.
Now your next draw will be:
2 Improvised events (Winging It for clues, Weapon for attacking)
2 Persistence
1 skill card of your choice (recommends: Resourceful, Contemplative, or Long Shot)
When you draw this hand, you can discard the events/skills from your hand with Cornered/Violin/Nodens to replay them and commit the skill cards to any tests. Then do the same thing over and over again.
The *
The infinite is pretty fragile as you need to dedicate 2 actions and resources to it every round. The resources aren't too big a deal thanks to Labranche/Violin, but 2 actions can easily be eaten by encounter cards or wanting to do something else besides investigate/fight. Luckily, we don't care about passing the tests so succeed or fail you still can maintain it. Sadly, we can't get a Will or Ward to our deck.
Ultimately, we can only hope that in the future there will be another way to shuffle a card into Patrice's deck without an action as reducing the combo down to 1 action will make it much more applicable.
Regardless of the length of time you maintain the infinite it does give you more chances for Patrice to hit her Elder Sign and re-create her deck without her best friend forever.
Interesting! I have had a very similar idea myself (William Yorick recurring Pushed to the Limit with Resourceful using Gift of Nodens as a means to play and shuffle Sledgehammer into a very thin deck/1 card deck - with Nodens giving the 1 card to shuffle into, a Yaotl perhaps ditching this again to Pushed to the Limit a second time, with A Glimmer of Hope being the recurrable fodder for Gift of Nodens), but had assumed the maintenance of using Nodens to keep 1 card deck wasn't allowed (because, if you're not allowed to shuffle into a zero card deck, then likely you can't place at the bottom of said deck either). I even went so far as to ask the question of FFG (no response yet).
However (!), your deck prompted me to do further digging on the subject, and for Wendy's amulet there is apparently already an FFG ruling (link here: www.reddit.com:)
If your deck is empty, and Wendy’s Amulet would have you place an event “on the bottom of your deck,” that event becomes your new deck.
So I guess for me this appears now clear cut. I still think my Yorick idea was more trouble than it's worth (Pushed to the Limit would still shuffle a Sledgehammer back in, so your odds of discarding with Yaotl would be 50-50) so I ditched it in the finish.
For the resource issue (in my case playing A Glimmer of Hope and having money for Pushed to the Limit) I thought Hunting Jacket was a good fit, especially as Yorick can also play Schoffner's Catalogue out of his discard pile - but again it all felt very messy and theoretical. I'm not sure if there is anything comparable on Patrice however though...
I guess the TL:DR is I like the idea, having had very similar ideas myself, and from the Wendy's Amulet ruling I believe this is all allowed!
