My version of Patrice seemed unique compared to the decks here, and worked very well in Path to Carcosa. This Flex build can handle anything and provides a TON of support including the highest number of bless tokens a single investigator can provide. I frequently, in a three-person team, hit or exceeded the maximum number of 10 bless tokens.
Patrice's mechanism to draw 5 cards a turn allows her to search her deck faster than any other investigator, and makes low-impact cards much, much more playable. It also enables her discard pile to act as a secondary hand. As long as you can handle Watcher from Another Dimension, she is amazing.
Key strengths:
- Keep Faith and its 0-cost upgrade and Signum Crucis (taboo'd to cost no experience) are all it takes to keep the token bag filled with blessings. Four blessings has a medium impact for a single card, but when you draw five cards per turn, you will hit these early and often. Signum Crucis can get 1-4 blessings for free thanks to Patrice's low stats, and sometimes you can investigate a high shroud location (with or without clues to discover).
- Open Gate is incredible. No other investigator can set up gates as quickly or reliably as Patrice Hathaway. It's cheap and fast, and can trivialize certain encounters.
- Encounter Card protection (and Delve Too Deep, the ultimate support) through Ward of Protection or its upgrade and Ward of Radiance empowered by so many blessings.
- Strong commits to ally tests, as many cards can/need to be tossed each turn anyway. Enraptured and its upgrade can add charges to another mystic, Unexpected Courage, Uncage the Soul, and Grizzled.
- General tankiness through allies, Improvised Shield, Profane Idol, and Spectral Shield using the many charges on Breath of the Sleeper and Eyes of the Dreamer, which are much, much stronger when the bag is filled with blessings. The odds of drawing two duplicate tokens goes way up with 10 blessings in the bag.
Dealing with Watcher from Another Dimension is easy through Miss Doyle and either Zeal or Hope, a bag filled with blessings, and Grizzled with traits "Inter-dimensional" and "Monster". Lucky timing with Quantum Flux or a revealed can delay the end of your deck. It's definitely wise to take the time to remove the Watcher from your hand so you draw more cards per turn, but in the worst case scenario, you can take the hit to your Improvised Shield and Spectral Shield.
Alternate paths:
- Better encounter protection through Ward of Protection, Alter Fate or Alter Fate. If your allies don't use their spell slots, Talisman of Protection is strong support to include in your starter deck.
- Blurse tech. If your teammates use curses AND blessings, you can start with Tempt Fate and use spells like Armageddon and Eye of Chaos.
- Rod of Animalism and Sled Dog, The Black Cat, and Familiar Spirit.
Upgrade priorities:
- Ancient Covenant
- Keep Faith
- Brand of Cthugha
- Stargazing
- Four of Cups
- A second Cornered is fine too; they stack.
Cards to replace: Moonstone, Winging It, Ward of Protection (unless you plan to upgrade it), and eventually Delve Too Deep.
Stretch goals: If you get a big chunk of experience, I highly recommend dropping Versatile for Leo De Luca, assuming no one else is using him, grabbing Rod of Animalism, Charisma, two Familiar Spirit, one The Black Cat, and focusing on grabbing A Chance Encounter. This will make you obscenely tanky, give you more spell slots, and make your magical cats cheaper. If you started your deck with Sled Dog you should be aiming for this path. As part of this purchase, you could add one of the money cards to your deck (as the three in the starter deck is overkill).
Try Crazy Cat Lady Faithfully Blessed Patrice... she's very strong!
