Opinion about the duo
Mark handled enemies and tanking / healing damage while Carolyn handled clues and tanked / healed horrors was the perfect duo for the Path To Carcosa, and we often felt totally in control of the scenario.
Opinion about the cards
- Alice Luxley's power was never used during the campaign, so Dr. Milan Christopher could have been used instead. I initially took Alice Luxley to eventually help with dealing damage, and because she can take one damage more, allowing a little bit more freedom with test for Carolyn.
- Clarity of Mind was never played, and I wouldn't recommend it, as soon as you have Ancient Stone, you don't need anything else (Logical Reasoning managing direct horrors if needed) until the last scenario.
- Scene of the Crime was invaluable in taking the last clue(s) of a location with punitive action for successful investigation.
- Dynamite Blast is a lot of fun.
- As you will see below, I didn't really know what to do with my upgrades, and there was a lot of back & forth with them (removing what I didn't use or like in a scenario…). The deck is good enough, and with more practice and better upgrades, I feel it can be great.
- At the end of the campaign, you may often investigate with 7 as intelligence, allowing you to pass almost everything.
Curtain Call
6 XP:
- 2x Peter Sylvestre => 2x Peter Sylvestre
- 1x Mind over Matter + 1x Anatomical Diagrams => 2x Ancient Stone
The Last King
4 XP:
- 2x Ancient Stone => 2x Ancient Stone (thanks to Shrewd Analysis)
- 1x Fine Clothes => 1x Pathfinder
Echoes of the Past
1 XP:
- 1x Fine Clothes => 1x Pathfinder
The Unspeakable Oath
=> R3
4 XP (+1 from the interlude):
- 1x Clarity of Mind + 1x Dynamite Blast => 2x Dynamite Blast
- 1x Clarity of Mind => 1x Death • XIII
A Phantom of Truth
5 XP:
- 1x Charisma
- 1x ? => 1x Death • XIII
The Pallid Mask
7 XP (+ 1XP left):
- 1x Dynamite Blast + 1x Logical Reasoning => 2x Stand Together
- 2x Crack the Case => 2x Ever Vigilant
Black Stars Rise
4 XP:
- 2x Magnifying Glass => 2x Magnifying Glass
- 2 XP left.
[Spoiler] I didn't have enough to handle all the horrors dealt by this scenario, and in the end, we did not manage to win the campaign… I'm now convinced that if Clarity of Mind is really not that great a card at the start of the campaign, Clarity of Mind (3) is mandatory for this last scenario alone…
Changed I would make
- 1x Anatomical Diagrams => 1x Hallowed Mirror
- 2x Clarity of Mind => 2x Preposterous Sketches (will be replaced, but allows more regularity at the start of the campaign)
with the suggested upgrade plan:
- P1 (6 XP)
- 2x Peter Sylvestre
- 2x Preposterous Sketches => 2x Ancient Stone
- P2 (7 XP)
- 2x Ancient Stone (Minds in Harmony)
- 2x Fine Clothes => 2x Pathfinder
- 2x Deduction => 2x Death • XIII
- P3
- 1x Charisma (3) (can come sooner as well)
- 2x Crack the Case => 2x Ever Vigilant (1) / 2x Stand Together (3)
- 2x Logical Reasoning => 2x Clarity of Mind (3)
- 1-2x Mind over Matter => 1-2x Cheat Death (5)
- Options
The new Logical Reasoning (4) can replace the Clarity of Mind (3) upgrade as well, for more action tempo.
