My first take at a Patrice Hathaway deck, built to mostly get clues in a larger group, but capably interact with baddies . It probably runs okay solo with minimal changes.

I went in with the following thoughts / directions:

  • We're seeing lots of cards and using our ability to reliably find a couple of key assets (Sixth Sense) to fuel Plan A of the deck.
  • We want lots of good icons. There are some 22 Double-Icon Cards / reactive boosts (Lucky!, Live and Learn, Fight or Flight) and 9 boosting assets (Dark Horse, Holy Rosary, David Renfield, hand stuff). Most of these are pretty versatile but don't feel like a waste if they're not used. By stat, there are like 12/14/14/14 skill pitches or ~+2s for ///, meaning there should be 1-2 options for everything in each hand (before considering permanent boosts or Improvided Cards in discard).
  • I've seen some wavering, but I'm pretty sure Lucky! belongs here: you don't have to save it for a big test; it's just after-the-fact Unexpected Courage, and that's plenty good.
  • It's not all in on Dark Horse. I'd consider running 1 and initially didn't want to play it at all. ("Just cause.") But I think it's probably Good Enough.
  • Apart from the dedicated long-term enemy plan (Shrivelling+ not my primary job), we have 6-10 good cards to pitch on enemy (probably evade) tests, Fight/Flight, the fail bonuses, and Improvised Weapon that could be standing by. I waffle on Fire Axe, and could see cutting it in multiplayer.
  • I'm glad to have 1-offs that I like to have available but may not need urgently: Coat/Pawterson, Stray Cat (for Watcher, confirmed to work), and an Improvised Weapon I can bin and use if I need it. In a similar vein, Uncage the Soul will only have a spell to buy like 40% of the time, but Guts would only draw into something we want like... less maybe.
  • I'm deliberately not playing Drawing Thin package (I doubt it's bad enough to be bad here, but I'd rather do more Patrice-y things than vanilla broken things) or playing toward Yaotl. I suspect Yaotl isn't good enough, but it's interesting.
  • Grisly Totem probably belongs in here. I think Rosary is a bit better (maybe Four of Cups frees this up). I'd imagine that I buy Grisly Totem(2) with Relic Hunter or Four when I can.
  • I'm buying 2 Cornered as my first purchases, which will take some tension off icons and let me go even more circumstantial with upgrades (and help with non-icon'ed cards like Dark Horse, Winging It, Four of Cups). I quickly want Four of Cups, Recharge, and probably Fearless(2). (Big icon / circumstantial cards like Infighting are tempting.)

Stuff I didn't include but will reconsider: Grisly Totem, Peter Sylvestre, Impromptu Barrier, Hiding Spot, the neutral skills, Prophesy, and Perseverance.

Early upgrade options: Cornered for some circumstantial skill, Miss Doyle for Stray Cat (using Hope to beat Watcher), Four of Cups for Rosary?, Grisly Totem.

Other options: Stroke of Luck, Fearless, Recharge, Recall the Future, Eucatastrophe, Survival Instinct.
